Super wrapped with this one!! It’s a knuckle duster that’s for sure! The stones are all Killiecrankie Topaz from Flinders Island Tasmania. They are colour graded as blue. There is blue there but it is so icy pale you can just see it. In some light they look colourless and in other light you can see the blue. That’s why I decided to set these in white metal with a blackened finish for depth and contrast. The shape of this ring was totally free formed and turned out really comfortable. The shape moulds to your finger. I’ll do similar designs to this but you will never see another one just like this ring! I could keep this but I won’t so it’s yours. What a day yesterday was! My first day back @findcollective for two months! I’m still beaming It was full of “meant to be” moments including this ring ending up on the finger of someone who has followed its creation right from the beginning from one of my “in the making” Instagram shots. She connected with the stone and the beginning of the design taking shape and has very patiently waited for me to finish it. I promised her she could see it first as soon as it was finished before deciding on the purchase. But I think she had claimed it from the start Meant to be!! Her initial reaction was priceless and it totally made my day! This is the most gorgeous pink/purple or mane magenta Tourmaline set in rose gold and silver with a little twinkling pink sapphire to one side. Solid Semi Black Opal from “Turners Rush” Lightening Ridge Australia. What an amazing piece to work with! This was one of my final custom orders from last year before I started my long break from customer orders. It was such a nice piece to finish up with! The opal has broad flashes of colour on all different angles. It was very hard to capture so I took what seemed like millions of shots. I think that’s why it took me soooo long to put this post up! I still don’t think these photos do it justice. I hope this piece brings its wearer so much joy. After sitting in it’s box as a gift for a long time it can finally be admired on her hand. This week I’m celebrating being qualified for 20 years! Wow that went kind of fast but also seemed very long and a lot of blood sweat and tears to get to where I am today I began my apprenticeship at the age of 17 so I actually began my trade 27 years ago. I did the first two years with one boss, had a break which included a years music course learning drums and I suppose you could say “finding myself” up in Northern NSW…as many do, then came back to Victoria and finished my apprenticeship and did an extra year to make sure I had caught up and was qualified in 2000. Started my own business in 2001 and now at my best point in my career in 2020! Wow what a ride! Thank to everyone who has supported me over all these years! I’m thankful to have had the drive to keep going! I have always been driven by the need to create. It’s my addiction 🥂🍾

Big chunky pendants! Here we have from left to right double stone Parrot Wing Jasper from Mexico, Big Chrysocolla & Jasper from NW Queensland Australia, Chrysocolla in Quarts from Arizona US, and also from Arizona is Chrysocolla with Malachite & Cuprite in Quartz. Having the presence of Quarts in rocks make them nice and hard where Chrysocolla varieties can be quite chalky and soft on their own. The Quartz make for a lovely high polish! Each of these stones I sourced directly from their fossickers as rough rock or slices of rock and I cut, shaped and polished them myself. I love cutting free form shapes! This is more work I have brought home from @findcollective while the shop is closed. All are available through me for now. Just send me a message if you would like more info

A project coming along quite nicely! The natural blue Sri Lankan Topaz I have had in my collection for years. It has found its design finally! And kind of by accident which is how my work evolves usually. I do things backwards to how I was taught as far as designing goes. I make the thing and then I draw it. I might scribble a few ideas down but generally the piece forms in my hands before it hits paper. Rudely interrupted by kamikaze moths I decided to call it a night…..well morning actually it’s past 2am So my daughter finished school today and on Monday my husband was one of the many people to have their jobs put on hold this week. So for who knows how long we are doing life a bit differently. I’ve decided to work my ultimate natural creative hours which seem to be anything between 12pm to 12am or like today it was 2pm to 2am. Why not! My natural body clock disagrees with 9 to 5 so I’m just going with it Means I’ll get to spend half a day with my family, work in the afternoon, dinner then more work when my kids in bed. Pretty cool I reckon oh…..and then sleep in because I’m far from being an early riser! Been listening to some awesome funny podcasts , I highly recommend it! Anyway here’s a pair of earrings I just put down. Pale blue oval Killiecrankie Diamonds/topaz with heated blue topaz pear shape drops. I’m using silver and 9ct yellow gold for these. Yesterday I finished another pair and a ring up to setting stage then I’ll have a few days of setting and polishing to do. I’m trying to slow down a bit and concentrate on one piece at a time. These earrings can be so tedious so if I’m doing a few pairs all at once they seem to take forever! This one is a Size S. the largest white stone is …..yes you guessed it! A Killiecrankie Diamond/Topaz from Flinders Island Tasmania. The other two are a very pale dusty pink and are natural Pink Zircon from Harts Range Northern Territory. I love using as many Australian gemstones as I can and this is a lovely collection all in one ring. Gold settings against two blackened silver flowing free formed rings. Hello! Just thought this was an interesting thing I realised whilst at beautiful wedding this weekend. I’m really good a taking all my rings of as soon as I get home because I like to avoid any extra wear and tear but camping in my van and keeping them all on over night including my big pearl ring I was quite cautious of the regular hand sanitising sessions I had given my rings and was wondering about the effects on my metals and stones especially the pearl. I have just read that it’s is best to take all your rings off and let the sanitiser dry. But how does that work if you don’t sanitise your rings too?? Anyway I personally recommend taking your rings of when you are just at home anyway. And if you’ve been out and about sanitising, when you get the chance take all your rings off and clean them in warm (not hot) water with a very mild natural dishwashing liquid. You can use an old soft toothbrush to get behind stones and crevices but never toothpaste! And pat dry. Don’t soak anything although diamonds should be fine if you have to. Well today at the Hobart Gem Show working with two amazing gemologists that the needle inclusions are actually fine tubes hens the crevice of the one that comes to the surface on the table facet. Wow I didn’t think it could get even more interesting!! This is not only a beautiful stone but also an interesting wearable specimen for the keen gem collector. Weapons of choicethese are the tools I use to push metal over the edges of gemstones to hold them in place. Hoping the shed the light on the pressures and stress and concentration needed to set a stone. The tool in the back ground is my tradeschool made push tool. It’s basically just a big nail in a handle I ground down to form a flat which I then polished so it leaves next to no marks on the metal. I hold the ring in a clamp in one hand and this tool in the other. I use my bench peg (the thing all these tools are sitting on) It takes all my strength to push the metal over with the tool and the other hand to hold the clamp and not let either slip. One slip and you can take out the stone or your other hand. I’m actually thankful to have to patch up my hand with a bandaid rather than smash a stone when this happens😬 Once the metal is pushed over as much as I can by hand, I then use a hammer and nail with its end ground off like the hand tool and tap around the edge of the setting with the nail using the hammer. Yep that’s how I do it! That’s why I sometimes talk about the need to get into the right headspace before I set stones. Sometimes I put it off if I can until the right moment. This week I have had some fantastic setting time

Weapons of choicethese are the tools I use to push metal over the edges of gemstones to hold them in place. Hoping the shed the light on the pressures and stress and concentration needed to set a stone. The tool in the back ground is my tradeschool made push tool. It’s basically just a big nail in a handle I ground down to form a flat which I then polished so it leaves next to no marks on the metal. I hold the ring in a clamp in one hand and this tool in the other. I use my bench peg (the thing all these tools are sitting on) It takes all my strength to push the metal over with the tool and the other hand to hold the clamp and not let either slip. One slip and you can take out the stone or your other hand. I’m actually thankful to have to patch up my hand with a bandaid rather than smash a stone when this happens😬 Once the metal is pushed over as much as I can by hand, I then use a hammer and nail with its end ground off like the hand tool and tap around the edge of the setting with the nail using the hammer. Yep that’s how I do it! That’s why I sometimes talk about the need to get into the right headspace before I set stones. Sometimes I put it off if I can until the right moment. A very late post I have been meaning to share since January to mark the one year wedding anniversary for Elicia and Jason️️️ A very special creation for absolutely awe inspiring person! For and artist to give me pure creative freedom in designing this piece for his partner who is also an artist was a great honour. I was keen to run everything by him with the design concept and was thrilled that he was happy with what I was coming up with. This design is the vision that came to mind when I thought about Elicia. Jason was amazing to work with and chose the MOST amazing and precious Garnet I have ever worked with and we set it off with Black Diamonds. The setting is 18ct yellow gold against Blackened Silver. It was so hard to capture in a still photo so I filmed it in natural overcast light. Where some might see these as imperfections, I see as beauty and character. I am quite fussy though, the stone as a whole must be pleasing to my eye. I bought a box of 6 “dirty” aquamarine just for this one. I might not even use the others but this one twinkled at me and begged to be set in one of my organic free formed silver rings. I have tried to capture the inclusions in the photos. It’s that underwater blue very much like an aquamarine. It’s cut is quite organic, it’s hard to see here but it’s like a cross between an oval and a cushion. I’m either going to go for my simplest style or go something more organic. I have made a bezel for it so I’ll decide later. My daughter started a fresh school year today! Very proud but also very (maybe I’m selfish and I do feel guilty!!) relieved. I’m pumped to be back in the bench and spending the morning sorting the mess from the chaotic start and o the year stealing time to create in between trying to be a present parent over what feels like endless school holidays. I know I’ve said it before but I feel it’s a real tug-o-war between parenting and creating and I don’t do school holidays well. Although I think it’s getting easier each year. My family puts up with my crazy driven creative times when I’m on a roll and can’t be dragged from the studio, I don’t know what I would do without them! So I’m sorting and cleaning every drill and bur and every tool and putting it back in its place (rare😬) so I can get motivated and blow it all up again🤣🤣🤣⛓yesssssss!!!!!! #backtowork

This lovely big bubble like Aquamarine is one I cut myself! A really nice way to get to know the stone! Aquamarine is a softer stone and care should be taken but as I always say, take great care with any stone and the metal it’s set in to help your jewellery look amazing for a long time This stone has a cloudy glow to it. I has a very slight chatoyancy, not quite a cats eye but a lovely shimmer. It was very hard to capture the colour in a photo! This stone sat on my bench for quite a while until I just had to make a design for it. So here it is! The band wraps around the setting in a tapering spiral with added granules of silver. This is very much my love of the ocean coming though in this design it’s now @brunyislandartuntamed at Dennes Point Bruny Island #aquamarine #seabubble #silverrings #handcraftedjewellery #brunyisland #madeintasmania #tasmania #inspiredbythesea

I’m totally fulfilled with the pieces they have had me create for them and they have all given me their trust and total artistic licence! This means so much to me! I will be slowly posting photos of the custom jewellery I have made along with……slowly but surely …my new creations! This is how I usually create! From the simplest sketchiest sketch in my little note book. I jot down notes about the stone, design details, costs of materials, weights and I record the time I spend on labour. Working @findcollective today, thought this one was nice with the black shirt and beads. I think this one would look great on a man too! It’s a rock that I cut and polished. Australian Chrysocolla & Jasper from the Katie Mine in NW Queensland I sourced as rough rock from the lovely people at Friendly Heart Gems who fossick for these amazing stones. It’s lovely we get all these colours in Australia! A really hard stone, took a beautiful polish! Ocean blues and greens against rich earthy browns. Working @findcollective today, thought this one was nice with the black shirt and beads. I think this one would look great on a man too! It’s a rock that I cut and polished. Australian Chrysocolla & Jasper from the Katie Mine in NW Queensland I sourced as rough rock from the lovely people at Friendly Heart Gems who fossick for these amazing stones. It’s lovely we get all these colours in Australia! A really hard stone, took a beautiful polish! Ocean blues and greens against rich earthy browns. I have left the setting tool marked and blackened in the crevices. Sterling Silver @salamancaartscentre

This is the crazy new piece I made for the current Exhibition @brunyislandartuntamed The crescent moon I wanted to re create in some pieces as the Ring (swipe left) I made around 2001 using recycled 22ct gold from an old ring I bought at a pawn shop as an near trade school in Melbourne. You can tell how soft it is by how the points of the crescent have squashed over the decades! I often have very deep connections to my work that cannot be put into words……so this time I’m leaving it up to YOU! This piece comes across very symbolic in many ways. Check out the back too. This piece was inspired by the thought of digging up a lost treasure from an ancient civilisation. HAPPY I just set this huge beautiful Killiecrankie/Topaz from Flinders Island Tasmania. Setting can be really intense both mentally and physically! You need all your focus and to be completely in control of your strength and your tools. One slip and that could be the end of the stone and the whole piece! Because I use one off sized stones I can’t just pop another one back in if I smash it! I’ve got to make a whole new setting or get another stone cut to fit which would be very costly especially with these big rocks!
